A Week In Outfits: Styling New Pieces For Food Dates

How I styled new summer-weather purchases for hang outs with friends and colleagues.

Headed out for a morning coffee with an old colleague and friend. Full look description below.

This week I met up with an old friend at TsuruTonTan, where we discussed the relative woes of shopping for new clothes. I’m not a big shopper myself, and when it comes to investing in season-friendly clothing I, like a lot of us, become overwhelmed with decision-paralysis. Nevertheless, I managed to put together some pretty cute looks built around two new pieces I invested in lately.

My test of whether or not a clothing purchase was worth it: whether or not I start wearing the piece right away. If it sits in my closet for more than a couple weeks after I’ve bought it, that’s a red flag (whether or not this rule applies to event-dressing could be its own blog post).

In last week’s post I shared a pair of Madewell shorts that I had just added to my repertoire. I styled them again this week for a coffee date with my old colleague and friend from WSJ who I hadn’t seen in a year:

Experimenting with new shorts. They’re Madewell. In a Uniqlo short-sleeve sweater, LouLou Studio no-lapel blazer, Ferragamo crossbody bag and Chanel flats. I accessorized with a few delicate gold pieces from Able and a pearl bracelet.

We grabbed morning coffee at Rosecrans, a plant/flower shop and cafe located in West Village:

A sweet atmosphere at the Rosecrans plant shop and cafe this week.

Afterwards we headed to the DÔEN boutique, where I searched for the perfect flouncy summer top:

A little classy, a little sassy. The DÔEN boutique in West Village.

I ended up with the perfect spring pants instead.

These 100% cotton Hilaire pants were inspired by 1940s palazzo pants. They feature a side zipper that hides in the left pocket. I’m just testing them out at home in my pajama top and Oofos house sandals...

The nipped waist creates a flattering shape for me, as I’m rather straight with narrow hips. They’re also offered in white and khaki, online only.

I threw them on again for a Friday night dinner date with my friend at Union Square:

In DÔEN Hilaire pants, styled with a Uniqlo T-Shirt, Chanel flats and a Ferragamo crossbody bag.
