Why You’re Here

I spent the better part of two years feeling like an imposter in the fashion industry, and in honor of Black History Month, we’re going to talk some more about that in the next post, but let’s stick to the main thing—why you’re here.

The fashion world is a behemoth.

When I was thrown here in 2021 I was profoundly unstylish, and didn’t quite understand what fashion editors did. As a kid I binge-watched fashion shows featuring my favorite models and I even had the fleeting fantasy of becoming a runway model one day. Then I stopped growing around 5’5” and eventually became more interested in binging Rachel Maddow than Chanel Iman’s runway highlights or Gucci’s Spring 2010 show. The thought of working in fashion quickly faded to the background.

Not in a sad way though, haha! More in a, growing into new interests kind of way.

But fashion never left my heart!

It didn’t leave my heart when I felt completely out of place at brand events, or when I finally started getting my footing in the industry. I was getting dressed every day, after all.

What I am trying to say is—we get dressed on the days we feel hot and the days we feel like hot garbage, so how we feel about our wardrobe matters! The fashion world has a funny way of making many of us feel excluded even though wearing clothes is one of the most fundamental parts of (most of lol) our lives. It’s something we do all four seasons.

Anyway, this is a place for us to hang out and explore the world of style and fashion as it relates to past, current and everyday events. I’ll share the expertise I have picked up in the last few years and we’ll keep learning together, of course. There are many of you who I do not get to see as often as I’d like, and I hope this will be a place for us to stay in touch.

The first installment of “All-Year Season” comes out February 4, 2024. I hope to see you there! x
