NYFW Recap Part 2: Perfect Accessories for the End of ‘Stealth Wealth’

Three designers who are helping us enter spring with newfound funk and flare.

As the internet floods with fashion month recaps I'm beginning to see a theme emerge: The end of stealth wealth. Apparently understated luxury is making its way out and more maximalist, in-your-face looks are on their way in. Exaggerated collars, bright red eye shadow, patterns that are impossible to miss, etc.

There are practical ways to increase the glamor factor in your look without having to drop bank on over-the-top garb that could go out of style in a few trend cycles. Accessories bring something timeless to the table. More worthy of a splurge because they can be added to a multitude of clothing ensembles without taking over the entire outfit.

Let’s dive into part two of my New York Fashion Week recap. The most fabulous accessories I saw at Black in Fashion Council (BIFC) this season, ideal for easing into the end of quiet luxury:

OMÔL

Sustainability-focused label by Paris-based designer Nathalie Chebou Moth.

Their setup at BIFC was beautiful. I was actually a little hesitant to touch any of the bags.

The rich and vibrant designs are inspired by Chebou Moth’s Cameroonian culture. My favorites are the bucket bags.

‘Ngoma’ bag made with acetate beads. I love the amber one, but everything is currently sold out! Lookbook image via OMÔL.

Her label is made for “cool and irreverent women,” which can absolutely be seen throughout the collection. Check out this funky briefcase!

‘Baye’ satchel made with wooden beads. Image via OMÔL.

It is even more stunning IRL. Oh how I dream of walking into a meeting with this baby on my arm.

Below, the striking ‘Esu’ bag made with rayon raffia and copper chain, and the leather ‘Totem’ sandal with an ABS sculptured heel.

This line features hand-crafted pieces! In other words—made with love. Not ready to go loud and proud with your accessories? For a more understated but equally luxurious look, let me introduce…

QOH Jewelry

New York-based fine jewelry brand by Tiffany Haynes.

Haynes discovered her love of jewelry while working as an intern at Interview magazine. This collection was inspired by a construction project near the designer’s home.

‘Drop’ earrings, ‘Structure’ rings (smaller ones left and right) and ‘Wrecking Ball’ necklace. Flat image via QOH Jewelry.

The rings and necklace are classic “go-to” jewelry. Pieces you can add to anything and go up several sophistication points with little effort. That does not take away from the intention behind each piece. There is a story behind the structure of every design that adds character and artistic intrigue to this fine jewelry.

Last on our list is a designer that seems to find the happy middle between minimalist chic and maximalist shine.

V.Bellan

New York-based jewelry brand by Vanessa Bellan.

If all this were mine I would probably be set for life. I’m not joking.

There is timeless inspiration behind this collection. Each piece is created in loving memory of Bellan’s daughter, who she could imagine wearing and cherishing her jewelry as she made her way through life.

Why do I literally feel emotional looking at these accessories? Well, because they are built to last. To be worn during some of our most memorable moments throughout life. To survive through stealth wealth and in-your-face luxury alike. There is delicate beauty crafted into all three of the collections above that actually brings tears to my eyes.

I am getting too in my feelings now, so with that, thank you so much for being here haha! I appreciate you and can’t wait to see you next week.

Yours Truly,

Kyoko
